Hurricane Irma and the long story of American mismanagement

Reports indicate that the death of 22 persons have been confirmed so far and many more are still missing.

Irma was announced a category 4 hurricane with the speed of wind exceeding 100 mph and 150 mph in some zones. Florida, from west to east, was devoured by the hurricane while the officials had asked residents of multiple cities to evacuate. People, however, believed that they have resisted such hurricanes many times before and there is no need to forsake their houses.

The fact is that American people are used to hurricanes. Hurricane is not an unprecedented event in America. Since centuries ago, and more recurrently previous decades, numerous hurricanes stroke multiple states in America. The US government and its apparatus, however, is still unable to control and limit the victims, damages and emergency state in the hurricane-stricken cities.

The only strategy that has been used in previous years was to visit the cities after the hurricane. President Trump visited Houston after Hurricane Harvey and announced he will visit Florida in the coming days.


Besides, there have been reports on racist behaviour in helping the people in Florida. Reports indicate that colored people were the last priority in saving operations and evacuation processes. Unconfirmed reports about rapes in temporary shelters also intimidated the hurricane-stricken people. mismanagement and lack of ability in controlling the after-effects of hurricanes led to complaints by the people across America.
