Iran and China want cooperation to build small and medium-sized nuclear reactors

Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization and his Chinese counterpart, Zhang Kijian, have expressed their country’s desire to cooperate in the construction of small and medium-size nuclear reactors.

This came at the meeting of Salehi with his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.

Salehi said Iran wanted to use small and medium reactors rather than large reactors against the backdrop of the country’s climatic conditions.

He stressed that the project to modernize the research reactor “Khandab” (Arak) research goes well and that Iran welcomes the influential Chinese cooperation in this regard.

For his part, the head of the Chinese Atomic Energy Agency, “Zhang Kijian,” that cooperation in the field of small and medium reactors and all other fields is a real desire of the Iranian and Chinese sides.

LONDON: Iran’s nuclear deal is a model of sustainable progress in global security

British Foreign Secretary Alan Duncan hailed Iran’s nuclear deal as a diplomatic success and a model of sustainable progress on global security.

In his address to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Assembly in Vienna, Dankin said that his country would remain committed to the agreement.

Duncan pointed to the importance of implementing the nuclear agreement by the countries that are members of the agreement, and expressed hope that Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA will continue.

President Rohani heads to New York next Sunday

President Ruhani will travel to New York next Sunday to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, the head of the presidential office for communications and information, Parviz Ismaili, announced Sunday.

Ismaili said in a press statement on Tuesday that the president would address the UN General Assembly meeting to clarify the country’s positions on the latest regional and international developments.

In addition to his speech at the UN General Assembly, President Rohani will deliver another speech at the peace meeting in memory of the late South African leader Nelson Mandela, he added.

During the visit, the president will meet a number of other heads of state, the Secretary-General of the United Nations as well as the heads of some international organizations, as well as leaders of the Muslim community in the United States.
